Hours Of Operation

Our daily schedule offers time for children to participate in group and independent child choice activities. 

 

  • Malaika’s hours of operation are 7:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. 
  • Early Childhood Education (ECE) hours are 7:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.
  • Early Elementary Education (EEE-K4-3rd grade) hours are 8:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.
  • Before-care and After-care are offered to our school scholars before the school day starts and after the school day ends. Additionally, care is offered on school days off. 
  • A Summer Program is offered for school-age children. The hours for summer care are the same as the early childhood education hours of operation. Children in the summer program spend time out exploring the community in addition to classroom activities. 

General ECE Daily Schedule

Breakfast:

8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.

A nutritious breakfast is served daily that meets all of the USDA meal requirements.

Morning meeting:

9:00 a.m.-9:25 a.m.

Morning meeting is a time to greet everyone and start our day. Activities at morning meeting include children’s jobs, calendar, weather, introduction of new letters/numbers of the week and a glance of the day’s activities.

Choice time:

9:00 a.m. – 9:25 a.m.

A variety of developmentally appropriate activities that encourage learning in all areas of development, as well as a teacher facilitated activity.

Clean up time & gross motor activities:

9:25 a.m. – 10:45 a.m.

All children work together to clean up the classroom. Cleaning up is a part of the learning through play process. Daily gross motor activities are required for a minimum of 60 minutes daily. As weather permits, gross motor activities will be outdoors.

Story time:

10:45 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

The teacher reads a story to the class relative to the current curriculum.

Lunch time:

11:00 a.m. – 11:50 a.m.

Our program is a peanut free environment. Our meals are prepared and delivered from a vendor. All meals served meet the requirements for the USDA Child and Adult Food Program.

Nap/Quiet time:

11:50 a.m. – 1:45 p.m.

Rest is an essential part of a child’s growth and development.

Snack time:

1:45 p.m. – 2:15 p.m.

Snacks are provided by Malaika for all children.

Gross Motor activities:

2:15 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Children clean up their snack, have a bathroom break and then have 30 minutes of gross motor time.

Choice time:

3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m

Children participate in active play outdoors and in our indoor gym in cold or poor weather.

Dismissal:

3:30 p.m. -5:30 p.m.

Children gather personal items, receive handouts, and depart as their families pick them up.

Early Elementary Daily Schedule

Breakfast:

7:45 a.m. – 8:20 a.m.

A nutritious breakfast is served daily that meets all of the USDA meal requirements.

Second Step/ Do Now/Morning Routine:

8:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.

Shared Reading/Literacy Centers

9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

Lunch Rotations:

11:00 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Rest/Cots clean up (All Kindergarten ONLY):

12 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Math:

1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Writer’s Workshop/Science/Social Studies:

2:30 p.m. – 3:10 p.m.

Bus/Dismissal:

3:15 p.m.
